Karyn Kaminski, MSW, LCSW, LCAS

Karyn was born and raised in Beavercreek, Ohio but has lived and worked around the country. Karyn joins us with over 16 years of experience in wilderness and residential therapy as well as educational consulting experience. She graduated from The University of Georgia with a Masters in Social Work and a certificate in Marriage and Family Counseling and currently holds dual licenses in clinical social work and as a clinical addiction specialist. She received her BS in Journalism at Northwestern University and still proudly calls herself a Wildcat.

When Karyn was asked about what drew her to Black Mountain Academy, she stated that during her experience as an educational consultant she could see that the staff members at Black Mountain believed in what they were doing and had passion that is critical for students to get the therapy they deserve. When asked about why Karyn joined this kind of work, she stated “I really believe in building up a person’s capacity and have faith that the boys are capable. I think one of my skills is learning what someone is interested in, and helping them pursue that task, while also helping them learn real-life skills.”

In her free team, Karyn can be found hiking, reading, spending time with her husband going on last-minute adventures, or enjoying a good play! Karyn is also a huge college football fan and enjoys rooting for the minor league baseball team, the Asheville Tourists.
