The Black Mountain Academy

A Decade of Integrated Care

Personal growth is more than a framework for Black Mountain Academy students – it’s a mindset and an integral value woven into each aspect of our school and program.

From day one, our clinical and residential teams build a relationship with each student while working side-by-side with teachers to support academic engagement, emotional well-being, healthy relationships, executive functioning, and independent living skills.

We know students do their best work when they feel a sense of belonging, have the skills they need to succeed, and know they have support when inevitable challenges arise.

We intentionally provide clinically informed care that is integrated into each student’s experience, both in and out of the classroom. Every member of a student’s core team works with students to develop and achieve their academic, personal, and life goals.

Earlier this year, one parent shared,

“When we brought our son to BMA, we were overwhelmed, sad, and honestly terrified about what it would mean to ‘send him away.’ But we also knew that he needed something we couldn’t provide at home. We couldn’t have possibly imagined how much this place would ‘fit’ and help—the therapists, the structure, the residential staff have all helped him, and us, to grow. And he is a part of a caring community, where he has gained crucial skills and even made friends! We never imagined that going so far away would allow us to become closer, but we are able to communicate and work together in ways we never could. Whatever bumps may still be ahead, we are already so much more able to navigate them and are so grateful.”

That’s what comprehensive, integrated care looks like in practice: therapists, teachers, residential coaches, and families working in partnership, united by a shared understanding of each student’s needs and a commitment to helping them grow, thrive, and succeed.

Ten years in, we remain just as committed to treating personal growth alongside academic achievement as a true measure of success.
