Each year, our students and staff collaborate with local organizations and nonprofits to volunteer, fundraise, and support meaningful causes that strengthen our students’ lives and our community. Since our founding in 2016, our students and staff have contributed over 10,000 hours volunteering to support organizations that make a lasting impact in our community.
Last spring, alongside a group of students and staff from Black Mountain Academy, I took on the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s Trailblaze Challenge—a fundraising and hiking challenge that supports children with critical illnesses. Make-A-Wish grants life-changing wishes to these children, bringing them joy and hope during difficult times.
As a team, we set a fundraising goal of $7,500 and surpassed it, raising $7,832. On the trail, we faced the physical challenge of hiking 28.3 miles in a single day. It was an unforgettable experience.
I am constantly inspired by Black Mountain Academy students for their willingness to take on difficult challenges. I admire those who completed last year’s Trailblaze Challenge and those who are stepping up to attempt it this year. Hard work looks different for everyone, but the saying holds true: “Hard work pays off.”
Asking for donations also takes courage. Hiking 28.3 miles in one day requires perseverance. Choosing to do both—to support an organization dedicated to bringing joy to children and families in need—demonstrates deep compassion. I am incredibly proud of our students for embodying these values, and I am deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed to our team’s efforts.
Please consider contributing to our fundraising campaign and cheer on our Black Mountain Academy team as they take on the Trailblaze Challenge again this year!
